The Working Girl’s Style Guide to October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October isn’t just that time of the year when the leaves begin to change colors and we each and drink pumpkin everything. October is breast cancer awareness month, this is a cause that truly hits home. My grandmother Olga was a breast cancer survivor who underwent 2 mastectomies and owned it every single day of her life. She lived a life that I can one day only hope to live. She was a fighter and took life by the horns and apologized to no one. Strangely enough she passed away on October 2014, 11 years ago during breast cancer awareness month due to a stroke. Ironic to say the least. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about the person my grandmother was and how I hope that when she looks at me from above she is proud.

There are many ways in which we can all help with breast cancer research. I have compiled a few way that we can all pitch in. Remember THINK PINK!

  • The National Breast Cancer Foundation bundles up goodies and for each bundle purchased in October they deliver a Hope kit to a breast cancer patient at one of their partner hospitals. 100% of proceeds of the sales in the NBCF shop support their mission of Helping Women Now.

  • Susan G. Komen is a non-profit dedicated to spreading awareness about breast cancer. They offer resources such as the Komen Breast Care Helpline, message board, and interactive tools on their website. They are the world’s largest private funder of breast cancer research. Check out their shop and paint your world pink while supporting breast cancer research. Also don’t forget to check out our local Susan G. Komen Houston Website to find out about upcoming events.

  • The NFL shop also offers breast cancer awareness products. 100% of the NFL’s proceeds from Pink products sales go to the American Cancer Society. This year the NFL along with the American Cancer Society unveiled their “A Crucial Catch” campaign that is focused on the importance of regular breast cancer screenings.

There are many more ways in which you can help spread awareness as well as raise fund for breast cancer research. Remember #thinkpink in October!
